The first time I heard this from my beloved teacher Michael B Beckwith I didn’t understand what it meant. Now that I do, and I can tell you it is a very profound truth about our existence.
"We're in this world, but we’re not of this world."
What this means is that you are an eternal being.
We are an intangible spark of light that was never born, and will never die.
The beautiful, expansive energy that we are, comes into this world, collapses into a human body and that is how we begin the journey of the human experience. The adventure called life.
But as we reach a certain age we fall out of grace. We slowly grow into the realization that life can be like a bumpy road and so we forget that we are eternal beings.
We start living as if we are from this world, this world of matter is all there is.
Things can get overwhelming. We can feel powerless and hopeless at times.
But there is a way to go back to our roots, to reconnect to the truth of who we really are.
We can do this by grounding ourselves.
So I want you to take a couple minutes right now for a grounding exercise.
🌱 Put your feet on the ground and take a deep breath in.
🌱 Call your attention back from other places, times, people and events, bringing your awareness back into your body.
🌱 Feel the sensation of your feet touching the ground and stay present, strongly present. If your mind wanders, gently bring your awareness back.
🌱 Visualize that from the base of your spine, from your root chakra, roots start growing. They go down your legs, your feet and then deep into the ground, connecting you with the very center of the Earth.
🌱 Breath deeply in and out, feeling the energy of your roots connected to Mother Earth's energy, grounding yourself.
🌱 Once you feel deeply rooted into the Earth, release any pain you might be holding onto, give it to Mother Earth.
🌱 Keep a strong presence in your body and feel how the energy contained in the center of the Earth starts moving through your roots, going up to your feet. Bring that energy to your heart.
🌱 Let the energy in your heart give you the answers and messages you need to receive.
🌱 Take another deep breath in and slowly come back, feeling grounded and present in your body.
This grounding energy will allow you to come back to center and listen to your heart more clearly.
Do this exercise when in doubt or when you feel overwhelmed. Know that the answer is always right here, right now.
